Abstract: In the context of China’s aging of the population, the paper illustrates the importance of studying the health status of the elderly and influencing factors in China. Based on data of China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) in 2018, by referring to existing foreign and domestic literature and using Logistic Regression method, the paper, taking the perspectives of the elderly as the entry point, studies the factors influencing health of the elderly, with elderly people aged 60 and above selected as the research object, and with self-evaluation of health and life satisfaction as variables. The research finds that urban residents have a better self-related health than rural residents; the higher educational background of the elderly, the higher degree of related-health they have in employment; elderly people with a higher degree of self-related health and life satisfaction are those who exercise regularly, have less insomnia and do not suffer from chronic diseases; the elderly with less contact with their children have a lower degree of self-related health; seniors who are remarried, older and insured by social basic medical insurance are more satisfied with life; the older people who are in regular contact with their children and whose children help them take care of eating and living are also more content with life. The paper puts forward the following suggestions. First, it is important to actively promote the progress of universal health insurance so as to integrate the uncovered groups into health coverage, making elderly people in these groups enjoy the guarantee of health insurance. Second, special medical and health service system for the elderly should be built and improved with the emphasis on prevention of senile diseases and regular health examination. Third, investment in health service should be enhanced with the aim of improving the elderly’s awareness for healthy life and vigorously launching sports and recreational activities for the elderly. Fourth, it’s important to strengthen children’s awareness to take care of the elderly, provide more policy support for family care and usher in social forces to innovate the ways of home-based care.
